| | Track team has a field day I could hear it in his voice. Coach Schwerdtfeger was proud. And rightly so, the Montrose Red Hawks' track team had emerged from the weekend with some stellar finishes at the Frank Woodward Invitational in Grand Junction. The track team broke two school records, landed some first-place finishes at the meet and also secured some serious state rankings. There are days when we have to cover issues and events that are, to put it mildly, not fun: think crime or a marathon local government meeting. But there are other days when we at the Montrose Daily Press get to talk to folks and write about things that are a complete joy to cover. Like the story in Wednesday's paper about the Red Hawks' day April 8 at the Frank Woodburn invitational in Grand Junction. Hearing about events like the track meet, where local youth are rewarded for all the hard work they've put in, and speaking with people like Schwerdtfeger, who are bursting with pride, and then relaying this celebratory information to the community ... that's the good stuff. But that other stuff — the crime, the housing crisis, wolf reintroduction — that's good stuff too. Or, rather, it's important. And though it's not always a day at the park — or track meet — to cover these type of stories, we recognize that relaying these stories to you is important. With every new day, new stories come across our proverbial desk — fun ones that are gonna make you smile, other ones that might make you shake your head — and we hope you value reading all of these stories as much as we value bringing them to you.
