Thoroughly impressed...

Every day this week I have been impressed with a new story about what MCSD's students have been up to.

As the spring semester wraps up, and as seniors anxiously await graduation day, many school programs are finishing out their seasons. For high school students, this time is also known as scholarship season.

I got to meet up with an old geometry teacher of mine, Chris Thompson (or, Mr. T, as we called him) at Centennial Middle School, where he told me about the robotics and engineering classes he teaches.

The robotics class splits into multiple teams of two or three, and each team builds their own robot designed to complete that year's specific challenge.

One of the school's teams, pictured below, made it to state this spring, winning the Colorado VEX IQ State Judges' Award.

It was so cool getting to hear one of the students explain what it was like to build a robot from start to finish. You can read about what he and Mr. T have to say here.

It's no surprise that Centennial won 'School to Watch' for the third time this year...

Hi, I am Rhiannon, one of the new staff writers for Montrose Daily Press. I cover the city and school district, and I love getting to cover the arts in town as well.

Star Drive-In Returns

Despite the clouds and rain today, not to mention April's brutal windstorms, there are still spring celebrations to be made.

Star Drive-In returned last weekend, offering the newest of films, the tastiest of burgers, and the biggest of smiles. You can read about MDP assistant editor Katharhynn Heidelberg's coverage of the Montrose staple's opening weekend here.
