Unemployed? Benefits are coming: Eligible unemployed Coloradans out of options are just under two weeks away from Phase 2, the roll out of new federal unemployment benefits, announced by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) on Sunday. The roll out will start on Feb. 22.
For the weekend ending Dec. 19, there were an estimated 825 continued claims in Montrose County for regular unemployment insurance (UI) and PEUC benefits.

Not much support: Our staff writer Cassie Knust wrote a story about the Montrose City Council's recent approval of a new amphitheater at Cerise Park. The city awarded $3.2 million of budgeted funds for construction of the new facility, despite public comments advocating for studies to understand the environmental impact of the park's ecological system.
As someone who enjoys exploring nature and taking my dogs to the park, it made me wonder if those public concerns were widespread. Our recent poll asks, "Do you support the construction of an amphitheater at Cerise Park?" As of Wednesday, 60.8% of voters said no, but why?
Is there an environmental concern or another underlying factor? Please share your thoughts and concerns with us by emailing editor@montrosepress.com.

COVID-19: On this day in history, U.S. health officials confirmed the first case of the novel coronavirus among the hundreds of people who'd been evacuated from China to military bases in the United States, according to the Associated Press.
Britain declared the new coronavirus a "serious and imminent threat to public health" and said people with the virus could now be forcibly quarantined.
