It's Earth Week

Grab some ink and a calendar, it's time to check out what's happening around town.

Hi friends,

Happy Earth Week! 🌍 As we get our hands dirty to plant trees, reduce waste, and celebrate the beauty of our planet this week, let's remember that every day offers a chance to make sustainable choices.

If you haven't seen the City's schedule of events for this week's celebrations, check it out on their website!

Don't get too relaxed though - there's a slew of Cinco de Mayo festivities swinging our way next week!

Go treasure thrifting to support the local food bank/shelter

Go rummaging for a cause this Saturday from 7 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Shepherd's Hand in Montrose. The local nonprofit is hosting an indoor treasure sale and fundraiser where you can find used and like new items (i.e. clothing, fitness equipment, household items, baked goods). Are you ready for Mother's Day?

Image

This is your (and my) friendly reminder that Mother's Day is May 12 - it will be here before you know it.

Alpine Floral is hosting a Mother's Day tea party and floral workshop, so tell your mom or the maternal figure in your life to wear her Sunday favorite and get ready for tea and florals.

Price is $75/person. Will include all you can drink hot tea and tea party snacks. You'll create your very own floral tea cup arrangement to take home!

This event does require pre-paid tickets to attend. Call, send message or email with your contact information and Alpine Floral will send a link for reservation. alpinefloral@gmail or 970-249-3545

Local veterans are hosting a fundraiser

Now through May 30, you can buy raffle tickets for a 50/50 raffle drawing benefitting Welcome Home Alliance for Veterans.

$5 each or five tickets for $20 at the Warrior Resource Center, 4 Hillcrest Plaza Way, in Montrose.

The winner receives half of the cash collected through the ticket sales, while Welcome Home receives the other to continue providing resources to veterans and their families in support of their transition to civilian life and other challenges. Drawing to be held on May 31.

Looking ahead:

  • Montrose Mudder (Free concert) featuring Union of None at the Montrose Rotary Amphitheater. May 4 @ 4:15 p.m.
  • Cinco de Mayo Bash ft. Coral Sky & WOWZERS (you remember WOWZERS from the Get Mooned: Eclipse party, right?). This multi-day bash also celebrates Brian Sandoval's two-year anniversary of purchasing Town Hall Tavern. May 3, 9 p.m.-May 5, 2 a.m.
  • Dive into the world of native plants with a Planting for Pollinators class from Valley Food Partnership. May 2, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

  • In a first-time service, the Montrose Regional Library is offering a free SafeSitter course just for grandparents and older adults. These series of classes cover safety and care standards/practices for their grandchildren. Make sure to register in advance.
  • Dust off your boots for a little barn dancing at Antler Ridge. Antler Ridge Weddings and Events is hosting this fundraiser, with live music from Neon Sky to boot. Proceeds benefit the local baseball team. May 4, 5 p.m. 72005 Kinikin Rd. in Montrose.
  • Today is the LAST day to cast a bid in the Partner's online auction, so don't miss your chance.

"Our Community Cares" is the perfect place to include your notes of gratitude that may not fit in our Letters to the Editor section. Email your notes to me at cassiek@montrosepress.com and I'll include it in our next newsletter. We may edit for length and clarity.

Let's talk more on NABUR!

As a news organization, it's our duty to inform. That said, news is made richer by the communities it represents.

With that in mind, I encourage you to hop on over to NABUR and share what's on your mind: What is important to you? What isn't important to you? What are you excited for/hesitant about? Let us know!

You can email us at editor@montrosepress.com or me directly at cassiek@montrosepress.com

As always, stay in the loop on events around town by visiting our calendar page.
