Good evening friends, It looks like we have 20 years to plan our next total solar eclipse party - that's enough time, right? I'll probably still wait until the last minute before I find some eclipse glasses! In the meantime, a huge shoutout to Montrose DART for organizing yesterday's out-of-this-world event! Equal snaps go to Wowzers, who really knew how to turn Centennial Plaza into the grooviest of dance floors. We're losing daylight, though, so let's get to the news! - Cassie Montrose Soccer continues winning streak The Montrose girls soccer team is on a winning streak, securing some impressive victories against Basalt and Fruita Monument. Good luck, Red Hawks! Former Montrose mayor withdraws from state senate race Former Montrose Mayor Barbara Bynum withdrew from the District 5 Colorado State Senate race this week. A seasoned Colorado journalist was removed from the Colorado Republican state assembly Colorado Sun politics reporter Sandra Fish, left, hands over her press credential in the morning on Saturday, April 6, 2024, after being told to leave the Colorado Republican Party state assembly at the Colorado State Fairgrounds in Pueblo. Fish was told she was being removed because state party chair Dave Williams doesn't like her reporting. (Ernest Lee Luning, Colorado Politics) The Colorado News Collaborative (COLab), Colorado Press Association, Colorado Broadcasters Association, Colorado Media Project, Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition and Denver Press Club penned an open letter today denouncing the recent exclusion of Colorado Sun politics reporter, Sandra Fish, from the state assembly. According to Colorado Politics, Fish was told she was being removed because Colorado Republican Party Chair Dave Williams does not like her reporting. "This action not only silences a respected voice in the field of journalism but also sends a chilling message to the press at large about the erosion of journalistic access and freedom within our state," the open letter states. This incident follows a recent FEC filing that alleges Williams improperly used state party money to support his congressional campaign. What's happening? Tomorrow is Colorado Pint Day, so don't miss out on some deals at Pomona Brewing if that's your cup of tea (I mean beer). If you're a fan of the Summer Montrose Music Series, you may want to head over to Horsefly Brewing tomorrow at 6 p.m. for a summer lineup announcement party. The music series will receive a portion of sales for every beverage sold. Do you like to stay in the know about city infrastructure?
