Hello and happy belated Siblings Day to all my fellow siblings out there (including my own all the way back in Texas),

You're hearing from me a little earlier today as I prepare for today's Business Expo. It's shaping up to host over 250 local businesses, so I'm excited to discover some familiar and new gems living in Montrose!

Let's jump into this upcoming week's events.

Be there... or be square

Square Deal is an annual fundraiser at Montrose Center for Arts where you can view and bid on art.

More than 80 local artists have donated their work to benefit MCA! As an amateur art hobbyist, this warms my heart. It also inspires me to donate a piece for the next Square Deal!

The sale continues on Thursdays through April, with the bidding window closing with First Friday on May 3.

Kick off mountain biking season at Pomona tonight

Pomona Brewing and Montrose Uncompahgre Trails are offering food, drink and prizes tonight. A portion of proceeds goes to MUT.

Chop chop, Chef

Montrose Style, a fundraiser for Montrose Center for the Arts (11 S. Park Ave.), begins this Saturday at 5 p.m. with Meet the Chef to kick off the inaugural competition between local chefs.

Enjoy some food, wine, ale, a silent auction and watch the best chefs vie for top honors.

Tickets are $50 per person and include two tokens for beer, wine or a specialty dish. For more information and tickets go to www.choppedmontrose.com.

Stay for refreshments, the group's business meeting and Show and Tell.

Swap your bike this weekend

Head over to the Bicycle Outfitters parking lot this Sunday if you're looking to buy, sell, trade, or give away anything bike-related. Bring your own table and chairs. Weather permitting. MABA will host fix-a-flat clinics at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.

Travel the world with some live music

The Patterson/Sutton Duo returns to the Western Slope Concert Series this Sunday from 3-6 p.m. with a presentation of music from around the world.

Located at the Montrose Pavilion, 1800 Pavilion Drive. Tickets are $17

Monday is Volunteer Day at the Warrior Resource Center

It's also Tax Day (our favorite, right?), so don't forget to file your taxes. However, if you are late, there is an automatic extension to file until Oct. 15. (This doesn't apply to tax payments.)

Anyway, head over to 4 Hillcrest Plaza Way on Monday and help veterans sort shoes donated for its current fundraiser. Funds will help repair the organization's parking lot and roof.

For more info, call 970-765-2210

Listen to the history of the horse in Colorado

Archaeologist Sonny Shelton will be presenting "Hoofbeats from the Past: Archaeological Evidence of the Horse in Western Colorado" at the United Methodist Church next Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Montrose. Admission is free.

Let's talk more on NABUR!

In case you missed it, we have a new category on NABUR: World affairs.

By adding this new option, we hope to facilitate conversation on national and global issues. Feel free to post what's on your mind, but remember, we want to maintain civil discussion!

As a news organization, it's our duty to inform. That said, news is made richer by the communities it represents.

With that in mind, I encourage you to hop on over to NABUR and share what's on your mind: What is important to you? What isn't important to you? What are you excited for/hesitant about? Let us know!

As always, for any questions, concerns or tips, email us at editor@montrosepress.com or me directly at cassiek@montrosepress.com
