Wolves being wolves ... The Colorado Parks and Wildlife has confirmed that a calf on a Grand County ranch was attacked and killed by a wolf. According to CPW: "The field investigation found multiple tooth rake marks on the calf's hindquarters and neck, and hemorrhaging under the hide, consistent with wolf depredation. Wolf tracks were also found nearby." To quote Jim Nabors' Gomer Pyle: "Surprise, surprise, surprise." Wolves are predators, this is what they do. Unfortunate, but not surprising. The rancher, if he files a claim, is eligible for fair-market compensation, but that's cold comfort to the calf. You can read more about this incident here.
