A BIT OF A DELAY: You may have noticed that the Montrose Daily Press website was down for a few minutes earlier this morning. We had some technical difficulties with Blox, the server we use for content on our website, so online activities may be slightly interrupted, but we'll make sure the news still gets out to everyone!

RODEOS ALLOWED UNDER NEW VARIANCE:
Under the partially-approved second variance, Montrose County can allow sporting tournaments and events, provided guidelines for personal recreation are followed. Montrose County says more information is on the way and that they have requested clarification on the specifics of the partial approval.

PUMPED FOR THE PUMP TRACK: The new mountain bike pump track in Montrose will be opening this week after improvements were made to the previous track to make it more engaging for users and more in line with the standards of other pump tracks in the region. The track is located on the south end of Cerise Park.

ImageDON'T SPILL THE BEANS: The Montrose County Democrats reported what was either a very strange accident or an act of weird, minor vandalism. Dem Chair Kevin Kuns shared with me on Facebook that beans were smeared on one of the Democratic headquarters' windows. See picture to the right, and let's remember to stay civil with one another this election season. Montrose is a community known for coming together in tough times.

NORWOOD CHILD DEATHS: Ashford Archer, husband to purported cult leader Madani Ceus, has filed an appeal, essentially claiming he wasn't responsible for the two young girls who died on a Norwood ranch in 2017. Archer is currently serving a 24-year sentence after being convicted in March. Ceus was last week sentenced to two consecutive 32-year prison terms.

COUNTY COVID UPDATES are going to start coming less often due to the current downward trend in the number of cases. Montrose County confirmed 181 cases of COVID-19 in its Thursday night update. Meanwhile, Texas, Arizona and Florida are seeing surges in cases, which have been largely attributed to the states' accelerated openings.

ON THIS DAY
in 1982, NASA's Columbia space shuttle launched into space for the first time on a research mission. It was the first flight of the space shuttle program. The shuttle was used for more than 22 years, flying a total of 27 missions before it disintegrated upon re-entry in 2003 near the end of its 28th mission.

KIDNAPPING OF TWO CHILDREN from their custodial guardian sparked a Montrose Police Department investigation into the incident. Three people were arrested Thursday night on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping.
Formal charges are pending.

SAY CHEESE because Monday is National Camera Day. June 29 is a day to celebrate the fact that photography, a once complicated scientific process, is now at everyone's fingertips as phone cameras continue to produce better quality.
Photography is based on two Greek words that, when put together, mean "writing with light." So how do you write with light? Share your Summer Fun snapshots with us by emailing justint@montrosepress.com.
