In 2019, about 433,000 Black Canyon visitors spent $27.6 million — more than the $19.3 million spent by visitors the year prior — and that spending in turn supported more jobs than in 2018, according to figures the U.S. Department of the Interior released last week.



FARMERS MARKETS in Colorado have experienced a "fairly smooth opening" this season, but financially, though, like many businesses and organizations during the pandemic, it has been a "different year for farmers markets."
While sales aren't at the same level as last year, vendors have seen steady business. Some vendors have even sold out of product.

FIRES BRING SMOKE TO AREA: High winds are carrying smoke from wildfires near Mancos and in Arizona into Montrose.

Lightning Sunday afternoon sparked the East Canyon Fire on Bureau of Land Management-administered lands located on a ridge east of Menefee Mountain, near Mancos, in Montezuma County. It prompted evacuations and as of the latest available information, there was no containment on the fire, which has burned more than 2,000 acres.
