NOTHING SWEET ABOUT CORN FEST CANCELLATION:
If you haven't heard by now, the Olathe Sweet Corn Festival has been canceled. This is a local favorite. Every year, families head to the festival to listen to live music, hang out with friends and, ultimately, shove delicious sweet corn into their mouths. The festival celebrated its first year at a new venue last year when it headed to the Montrose County Fairgrounds. But this year, it's another victim to COVID-19.

GOT A LETTER THIS WEEK from a reader who was concerned about our reporting. The article in question was about the local Black Lives Matter protests. The reader asked why, in that article, we didn't print some protestors' last names. Hindsight: maybe we should have thought that one out more, but the main reason was that local organizers didn't want to share their last names for fear of retaliation. We understand that's probably a valid fear (and fear of retaliation — violent or otherwise — is typically the only reason we decide not to print whole names), but we've decided going forward we're not going to publish comments from protestors unless they're willing to give their last names. That's not because we think they're some out-of-town folks shipped into Montrose. (We vetted that rumor, and it just isn't true. Everyone we interviewed was local.)
